If you’re like me and look forward to the mental gymnastics of the New York Times Spelling Bee every morning, then today’s hive of letters gave us a delightful mix. The center letter was T, surrounded by E, N, J, I, M, O, making for an interesting challenge that required some creative thinking and word knowledge to crack the pangram.
The First Step: Identify the Vibe
Before diving into word-building, I scanned the outer letters and noticed strong consonants like J, M, N and versatile vowels E, I, O. But what made today tricky was the less common presence of J, which often signals a potential twist in pangram territory.
My first thought was to find longer anchor words and repeating patterns — words like “mention” or “emotion” crossed my mind, but I had to ensure each word included T (the central letter), and only the seven provided letters could be used.
The Pangram: “Jettison”
After testing out different combinations and circling back a few times, I found the golden pangram of the day: JETTISON.
Jettison, a verb, means to throw or drop something from an aircraft or ship — or metaphorically, to discard something unneeded. It’s a juicy word that makes excellent use of the tricky J and uses all letters exactly from today’s puzzle.
Finding the pangram often opens the door to discovering other words, and this one was no exception. Let me walk you through my process and then share the full word list I was able to collect.
Strategy for Solving
-
Start with short base words like “tent,” “mint,” “tone” to build momentum.
-
Focus on adding suffixes like -tion, -ing, -ist (if valid).
-
Use plurals and verb forms if allowed by the Bee.
-
Try to use rare letters like J and M early — they usually lead to higher-scoring words.

Reflections and Tips
Today’s puzzle was satisfying because it challenged lateral thinking. The inclusion of J pushed me to look beyond common combinations. I recommend keeping an eye out for unconventional letters when chasing pangrams — they’re often the key. Also, try working backward from complex words like “jettison” to identify their components — “jet,” “son,” “tie” — this helps build momentum.
Final Buzz
If you’re still working on today’s Bee, don’t get discouraged. The joy is in the journey, not just the pangram. Whether you made it to “Genius” level or are just warming up, every word counts.
Let me know in the comments: Did you find jettison today? How many words did you get?
Until tomorrow — keep spelling and keep buzzing!
