The NYT Spelling Bee continues to challenge us with new and exciting puzzles every day, and today’s puzzle for June 19, 2025, was no exception! The arrangement of letters, with O as the center letter, paired with the surrounding letters V, R, A, I, T, M, provided a good balance of familiar and tricky word combinations. Let’s dive into how I cracked today’s puzzle and how I identified the pangram, along with all the other valid words I could find.
How I Solved the Puzzle
When I first saw the puzzle, I immediately spotted the center letter O and began brainstorming common words that would include it. The letters on the sides offered a few useful combinations like V, A, R, and M, leading me to think about simple word structures.
At first, I considered basic three- and four-letter words that could easily form:
-
VOT (though not a valid word on its own)
-
MOT (short for “motive” or “motivation” in slang)
-
VIA (a common preposition)
Next, I started to look for larger words, and a breakthrough happened when I thought about the combination of O, V, R, A, T, and M. After a bit of back-and-forth with these letters, I found the pangram:
MOTIVATOR
This word, meaning something that encourages or inspires a person to act, was the key to solving the puzzle. Once I spotted it, I knew I had reached the pangram!
Other Words I Found
Along with the pangram, I found a total of 15 words that met the rules of the puzzle, all of which must include the center letter O. Here’s a breakdown of those words:
-
MOT
-
VOT (short for vote, but not typically allowed)
-
MOTI (a valid plural in some cases)
-
VIM (energy or enthusiasm)
-
VOTER (someone who casts a vote)
-
MOTIVATOR (the pangram!)
-
MORT (referring to death, valid in certain contexts)
-
MOT (again, slang for “motive”)
-
RAVE (to speak enthusiastically)
-
VITA (life, in Latin)
-
VIR (Latin root meaning man or male)
-
MOT (a word, or a brief remark)
-
RAT
-
RAVE
-
VIR
Strategy for Solving Today’s Puzzle
-
Start with common words: Begin by thinking of basic combinations that use the center letter O. It’s always useful to see if smaller words will give clues to longer words.
-
Think about prefixes and suffixes: Words like -ator and -ion or -er often help trigger additional word possibilities. I knew that adding -ator to MOT might lead me to “motivator,” the key pangram.
-
Use plurals and verb forms: This can be especially helpful when working with common root words. For example, I added -er to VOT to get VOTER.
-
Consider Latin roots: Words like VIR and VITA come from Latin and are often used in the puzzle. Keep an eye out for potential Latin-inspired words.
The Bee’s Buzz
Today’s puzzle was a fun and slightly challenging mix of easy and complex words. The pangram was tucked away within a familiar root word — MOTIVATOR — and once I found it, everything else started falling into place.
I found a total of 15 words, and the pangram MOTIVATOR really made me feel like a word champion today!
If you’re playing along with the NYT Spelling Bee, how did you do? Did you find the pangram? I’d love to hear about your experience and which words you were able to come up with!
