Today’s NYT Spelling Bee puzzle offered a really satisfying challenge. At first glance, the letter set looked fairly compact, but the presence of U as the center letter made it clear that every valid word would need careful construction. With some patience and pattern recognition, the puzzle opened up nicely—especially once the pangrams revealed themselves.

Today’s Letter Set

Center letter: U
Outer letters: L, E, D, C, N, K

As always, every word must:

  • Be at least four letters long

  • Include the center letter U

  • Use only the given letters

How I Solved Today’s Puzzle

I started by looking for short, familiar words that naturally contain U. Words like DUCK, DUNK, and NUDE jumped out quickly and helped confirm that I was reading the letter set correctly.

Next, I shifted focus to verb forms, especially past tense endings like -ED. This strategy worked well today because several valid words naturally extend that way (DUCKED, DUNKED, NUKED).

Once those appeared, I began rearranging the letters mentally to search for longer constructions. That’s when I noticed the strong combination of K–N–U–C–L, which often signals a high-value word. After a few rearrangements, the first pangram became clear.

Strategy Tips That Worked Well Today

  • Look for -ED endings: Many high-value words today were past-tense verbs.

  • Rearrange letters visually: Pangrams often hide in plain sight when letters are mentally regrouped.

  • Don’t stop at one pangram: If one appears, there’s often another nearby.

  • Build from common roots: Words like DUCK and DUNK helped unlock longer forms.
