Today’s NYT Spelling Bee puzzle offered a clean but surprisingly rich letter set. The center letter was U, which meant every valid word had to include U. The outer letters were P, D, E, T, L, and O, creating many useful combinations around out, poll, pull, and duel patterns.

The two pangrams for today are:

OUTPOLLED
POLLUTED

Both answers use all seven letters from the puzzle and include the required center letter U, making them the major highlights of today’s solve.

How I Solved Today’s Puzzle

I started today’s puzzle by focusing on the center letter U. Since every valid Spelling Bee word must contain U, I immediately ignored tempting words that did not include it. This helped keep the solving process focused and efficient.

The first words I noticed were simple four-letter answers such as duel duet dull lute lulu pulp and putt. These short words helped reveal the main rhythm of the puzzle. The letters worked especially well with du lu pu and out patterns.

After getting a few smaller answers, I started looking for longer forms. The word pollute came into view because the available letters supported P, O, L, L, U, T, E. From there, adding D created POLLUTED, which became one of today’s pangrams. It was a satisfying find because it used every letter naturally and felt like a strong everyday word.

The second breakthrough came when I noticed the out- prefix. Since O, U, and T were all available, I began testing longer words beginning with out. That led to outpoll, and then the past-tense form OUTPOLLED. This was the longer and more dramatic pangram of the day.

Pangram Breakdown

POLLUTED

Polluted means made dirty, harmful, or contaminated, often referring to air, water, or land. It uses every letter from today’s puzzle:

P + O + L + L + U + T + E + D

The repeated L is allowed, and the word includes the required center letter U.

OUTPOLLED

Outpolled means received more votes than another candidate or option. It is built from the root poll with the prefix out- and the past-tense ending -ed.

out- + poll + -ed = OUTPOLLED

Letter breakdown:

O + U + T + P + O + L + L + E + D

This word is especially satisfying because it uses a prefix, a root, and a suffix in one complete structure.

Strategy Tips from Today’s Puzzle

Watch Prefixes and Endings

The best strategy today was watching for prefixes and endings. The out- prefix was the key to finding OUTPOLLED, while the -ed ending helped unlock both POLLUTED and OUTPOLLED.

Build from Smaller Roots

Another useful method was building from smaller roots. Words like poll, pull, duel, and lute helped point toward longer answers. Even if a shorter root does not always qualify by itself, it can still guide the solver toward valid extended words.

Think in Repeated Letters

Today’s puzzle also rewarded repeated-letter thinking. Both pangrams use repeated letters, especially L and O. Remembering that Spelling Bee allows repeated letters is often the difference between missing and finding the pangram.

Lessons from the Letters

The 19 May 2026 NYT Spelling Bee puzzle was a thoughtful and enjoyable challenge. With U at the center, the puzzle pushed solvers toward strong word families built around du, lu, pu, and out.

du lu pu out
pollute POLLUTED outpoll OUTPOLLED

The two pangrams, POLLUTED and OUTPOLLED, made today’s puzzle especially rewarding. POLLUTED was the more direct find, while OUTPOLLED required deeper word-building through prefix and suffix recognition.

If you found both pangrams today, that was an excellent solve and a strong step toward Genius level.
