Today’s NYT Spelling Bee puzzle for February 19, 2026, featured the following letters:
Center letter: M
Surrounding letters: H, C, I, A, E, T
As always, every valid word must include the center letter M, be at least four letters long, and use only the given letters. Letters may be repeated.
First Impressions
When I first saw today’s grid, I immediately noticed that it looked vowel-friendly. With A, E, and I available, along with strong consonants like T, H, and C, there were plenty of possibilities.
Because the center letter was M, I started by testing common “MA-” and “ME-” openings:
-
MATE
-
MATH
-
MICA
-
MIME
-
MITE
-
MEAT
-
ITEM
These smaller words help build rhythm and reveal useful letter clusters.
Spotting the Pattern
Very quickly, the cluster MATH stood out. From there, it wasn’t a big leap to extend it:
MATH → MATHEM…
Once I saw MATHEM, I tried extending it further using the available letters. That’s when it clicked:
MATHEMATIC
Let’s verify:
M
A
T
H
E
M
A
T
I
C
All seven letters are used, including the required center letter M. That confirmed MATHEMATIC as a pangram.
But the puzzle didn’t stop there.

Looking at the same letter cluster without the extra “MA” at the beginning led to:
THEMATIC
Check the letters:
T
H
E
M
A
T
I
C
Again, all seven letters are used. That means today’s puzzle contains two pangrams:
-
MATHEMATIC
-
THEMATIC
Finding multiple pangrams always makes a puzzle more satisfying.

How the Solve Unfolded
The key today was recognizing strong academic vocabulary patterns. The presence of letters like T, H, E, and M immediately suggested words ending in -MATIC.
Once I saw THEME, the extension to THEMIC and then THEMATIC became obvious. From there, adding “MA” at the beginning unlocked MATHEMATIC.
Another helpful approach was rotating vowel positions:
-
MATE → MEAT → META
-
ITEM → EMIT → TIME
-
MICA → MICE
Systematic rearranging made the puzzle flow naturally.

Difficulty Level
I would rate today’s puzzle as moderately easy, especially if you’re comfortable with academic or descriptive vocabulary. The vowels provided flexibility, and the repeating letter structure made longer constructions possible.
Having two pangrams added an extra layer of fun.
Wrapping Up Today’s Hive
The February 19, 2026 NYT Spelling Bee puzzle delivered a satisfying experience with two pangrams:
-
THEMATIC
-
MATHEMATIC
It rewarded pattern recognition and vocabulary familiarity. If you noticed the “-MATIC” ending early, the solve likely came quickly.
